Aran, it would be a pleasure!

You're welcome to use the next opportunity when I'm planned at CEMC for this. I love it. I also have a djembe if you need it :)

Can I recruit you to my (apparently long term) project? I really, really, really want to have a 11am service at CEMC with absoloutely no words, written or spoken, the ENTIRE time. A challenge it seems.
Several times when I have mentioned it the hearer says, something along the lines of "bit dull" or "a lot of silence" or suchlike. Why do people think of worship without words as silent meditation? My response is oooo no. I want drums! (West Coast American Indian potlach drums, African speaking drums, Jamacan metal drums, there are soooo many) (Have you read the Grateful Dead drummer's book about drumming, I loved it. My copy is buried in Mum's garage I think, or I gave it to my brother) And at least one empty bowl (Buddists have prayer bowls), I love the symbolism of an empty bowl, and the craftsmenship. Lots of movement, smells and tastes and pictures on the walls. Fish floating over the space ...
It is not as if we can't do "traditional" or "familiar" because music is wordless.
You will be a great person to add something to this. ?
It would need careful preparation or we scare the very people I think would take the most from it and they won't come.
Do you know a lot of potters? Another project I liked from my American days. Soup Bowl Supper, where potters donated bowls - a big table of bowls and you could choose a bowl, eat your soup and take the bowl home. People had lots of soup recipes, and chilli. We could do stew - I say we, I mean, remind me to suggest it around to create a quorum, and find some potters. Have you been to the Meadows Pottery yet?

I thought poi was Hawaiian food, like polenta or the dish that appears at our pot lucks when the Ghaneans or Zimbabewan cooks have been busy. (I like that kind of food, no idea why as it is, basically quite dull...)

Hi Aran, thanks for your response. I think I need to make it clear that I have no interest in stomping on anyone's tradition. Or, perhaps I should say that if there's a tradition I feel needs to be challenged you can be sure I will make a point of explaining my actions. In this case I simply didn't know. The comments I recieved about it might have been meant innocently enough but they came across as complaint and critiscism.

Personally I think guitars are excellent instruments for leading worship but I have been conditioned to their use by a lifetime of guitar led worship and a love of rock music. I often find it difficult to follow hymns led on the organ but I am slowly learning to appreciate it because i see the value and beauty in it. I only wish others would show the instruments I favour the same courtesy.

Oh, and you are not the only one not to use the plate. Have you compared notes with others? Stick to your guns & if you know why you didn't use it then fine. Sometimes other peoples' views make something seemingly unimportant, important after all. Other times, not.
